Takhats were originally used as daybeds by the wealthy merchant classes in Rajasthan, particularly in the Shekhawati area. This takhat is from Shekhawati and dates to the 19th century and constructed from roheda wood which is a variety of teak and the national wood of Rajasthan. Its turned and lacquered legs support a beautifully patinaed table top with an ornately carved side.
